ABOUT
We are a specialist VC in Climate Adaptation operating in the Hydroclimatic Risk vertical
Where the Spending Is
The largest buyers of hydroclimatic risk technologies are not water utilities, but operators of: linear assets, coastal infrastructure, FIRE, and power generation. As flooding, drought, and impaired fresh and marine ecosystems impact asset performance and balance sheets, these sectors are driving real spend. The opportunity sits where water becomes operational and financial risk.

Too Much Water
While hydroclimatic risk includes scarcity, impairment, and excess, most of our focus is on too much water. Flooding, runoff, and system overwhelm are becoming more frequent, severe, and costly. These impacts are accelerating fastest and creating the clearest demand for scalable solutions across infrastructure, land, and assets.

Measure to Manage
“You can’t manage what you don’t measure” defines our approach to hydroclimatic risk. Industry has long measured hydroclimatic risk, but Industry 4.0 tools are transforming how data is generated and used. Sensors, satellites, and analytics now enable real-time visibility into hydrological risks in our new climate reality.
Simplifying Adaptation
Most of the world struggles to adapt not from lack of intent, but because solutions are too complex and costly. We back companies that simplify and scale access to climate tools—“QuickBooks-ing” adaptation. The goal is affordable, intuitive solutions that allow more people and organizations to manage hydroclimatic risk more effectively.

Builders Driving Progress
Early-stage founders are a critical force in advancing climate adaptation. Their willingness to build in uncertain conditions is what moves the sector forward. Their work is expanding what’s possible and helping ensure society can better withstand and adapt to rising hydroclimatic risk.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Our criteria for investment is straightforward

Must have a primary focus on hydroclimatic risks

Must leverage innovation from the Industry 4.0 toolbox

Must have an application that addresses the needs/objectives in one of our 4 focus sectors

Must demonstrate a plausible strategy for reaching profitability

Must have booked
>$300,000 in top-line revenue in the last calendar year
OUR IMPACT
The "Quickbooks-ization" of
technology solutions will help more of industry & society deal with hydroclimatic risk
Most of humanity will struggle to adapt to our changing climate—not for lack of will, but because solutions - often paid for by well-intentioned climate finance initiatives, remain too complex and too expensive. This must change. Mazarine Climate backs young companies run by founders who are on a mission to democratize the adaptation toolbox, making powerful, affordable technology accessible to every industry, community, and person.
Adaptation to hydroclimatic risk cannot be a privilege—it must be a shared capability.
OUR TEAM
We've spent our careers watching this risk build. Now we're doing something about It
Where most climate funds are built around finance and dealmaking, Shirley and John have deliberately built our global network of SMEs across the 5 realms of hydroclimatic risk — hydrology, atmospheric science, cryosphere dynamics, geohazards, and coastal oceanography, alongside seasoned investors and operators who understand how these risks translate into financial exposure. The result is a team that doesn't rely on consultants to understand what it owns. We read the science firsthand, track the models directly, and back founders who are solving problems we understand at a technical level. That depth is not incidental to our investment process — it is our investment process.
PARTNERSHIPS
We welcome opportunities to syndicate with other Climate Adaptation investors
We recognize the important contributions of specialist investors targeting wildfire, extreme temperature, wind, and biological risks. Mazarine Climate is focused exclusively on hydroclimatic risk, bringing depth to this vertical while remaining highly collaborative.
We welcome syndication with VC and PE that value domain expertise across adjacent climate adaptation categories.
