Why we invested in AquaMetrics

Updated: Jan 14

Our third investment is in AquaMetrics, a company solving a fundamental but often overlooked challenge in water resource management: accurate, continuous freshwater and marine level monitoring.

The AquaMetrics sensor is a rugged, radar-based sensor system that delivers high-frequency real-time water-level data — up to 96 measurements per day — enabling managers to detect sudden rises or drops in water levels and respond proactively.

What makes their sensor unique?

Traditional water monitoring often relies on infrequent manual readings or poorly calibrated gauges that miss critical swings in lake levels. These fluctuations matter: unexpected high water can threaten shoreline infrastructure and flood adjacent properties, while low water can stress ecosystems, impair recreation, and disrupt water supplies. AquaMetrics’ solution addresses these risks directly with high-accuracy radar sensing, reliable wireless connectivity, and seamless integration into data platforms for alerting and visualization.

What sets AquaMetrics apart?

Importantly, this technology fits into broader trends in environmental data. As climate change increases extreme precipitation variability, lakes, reservoirs, and coastal infrastructure (ports, harbors, marinas, etc) are experiencing greater unpredictability in levels — from drought-related lows to storm-driven surges. Real-time insight into water levels is no longer a “nice to have” but essential infrastructure for municipalities, lake associations, utilities, and environmental researchers. AquaMetrics places high-resolution monitoring into the hands of decision-makers who must anticipate and adapt.

The business case for AquaMetrics is built on clear value delivered to customers: proactive flood risk detection, improved ecological stewardship, and informed operational responses. Its long battery life, rugged IP-rated construction, and near plug-and-play installation lower barriers to adoption and reduce long-term maintenance burdens.

Why AquaMetrics matters, and why this is a Climate Adaptation play

Like our other climate-adaptation investments, AquaMetrics targets a practical, high-impact problem that sits beneath broader headlines about climate risk. These are the kinds of solutions that industries, governments, and communities need now — and that create durable, scalable market opportunities for investors in climate resilience and environmental intelligence.
